When I joined the VAR Lab, the only space we had was 218 Merwin, an 800-square-foot room with two cubicles along the wall and very little space for collaboration. We could only accommodate two 10×10 virtual reality user spaces if we shuffled everything around.
While the space in Merwin 218 was influential in hosting our early meetings with stakeholders and potential partners, we quickly ran out of capacity when our campus involvement increased. Thankfully, in March 2022, we were able to move into a space that had recently been vacated down the hall. Merwin 214/215 has double the square footage of the original room, allowing for two permanent 10×10 VR user spaces, the XRcast Studio set, a conference table/meeting area, five office spaces, and a lockable storage closet.
