Graduated in Spring 2022 | GPA - 3.86
  • Business Economics - B.S.
  • Business Economics is a quantitatively-oriented program of study in applied economics. Leading to a Bachelors of Science degree, this major combines in-depth study of economics with a general business background, the latter including courses in accounting, finance, management, management information systems, marketing, and quantitative business analysis.

Description provided by Penn State University’s official bulletin

    My Interest

From a young age, I knew I wanted to get involved in the business world. Economics was particularly interesting to me because I enjoyed the focus on analysis-driven decision making and strategizing. The background in economic theory has helped me to shape an understanding of how individuals, organizations, and institutions interact in the open market.

A Business Economics degree from Behrend also includes a core set of business classes that span a variety of business domains. I have had the opportunity to take classes in Accounting, Marketing, Management, Supply Chain Management, Finance, and Management Information Systems.

  • International Business - B.S.
  • The International Business major is designed to prepare students for the increasingly international nature of business. This includes issues concerned with accomplishing organizational objectives through the coordination of human, material, information, and financial resources across national boundaries. In addition to studying the core business courses, students in this major will receive a broad exposure to the complexity of international business through required course work in international business, international culture, a foreign language, and a study abroad experience.

Description provided by Penn State University’s official bulletin

    My Interest

I enjoyed this program because it provided me with an international perspective that complemented the rest of my business courses. This was a concurrent degree so there was a track laid out that facilitated its integration with my Business Economics program. Despite the COVID setback, I enjoyed the alternative study abroad experience that I completed as part of the program.

My mother was born and raised in Germany and immigrated to the United States in the 1990s. From a young age, I remember being made aware of the additional components you need to consider when you are dealing with international situations. In my experience engaging with my mother’s side of the family, our languages were different, our time zones were different, there were subtle cultural differences, and they needed to exchange money when visiting. All of this piqued my interest in the field of international Business and the program at Penn State Behrend was just what I wanted!
