VAR Studio is a strategic unit of the Virtual/Augmented Reality Lab (VAR Lab) that focuses on the creation of immersive content. Formally established in Spring 2022.
The physical footprint of the Studio consists of 2 maker spaces, specializing in distinctive domains within the immersive field.
- XR Cast Studio
- Located in the VAR Lab in Knowledge Park. This space makes it possible to produce XR-connected podcasts and in-headset videos.
- Example – Our VAR Travels series is a good example of integrating immersive technologies into the “traditional” podcasting setup to produce an interesting audience experience.
- Matchbox Studio
- Located in the Merwin High Bay in Knowledge Park.
- Put simply, this is a dedicated production studio built into a box. The space is equipped to produce 3D models using photogrammetry, Lidar scanners, and structured light scanners.
- The lab worked with the Hagen History Center in the Spring of 2022 to produce five interactive exhibits. Included in these exhibits are 3D models of historical artifacts that we produced in the Matchbox Studio using structured light scanning.
